Photo Essay: Fire leaves Kenville Informal Settlement residents destitute
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
On Tuesday, residents of Kenville Informal Settlement north of Durban were still picking up pieces after the devastating fire that ripped through the area.

Sunday’s blaze claimed the life of a pregnant woman and left hundreds of people without homes.
Some were sleeping in temporary structures, while others said they were given refuge at friends’ or relatives’ homes.

It took about 30 firefighters to extinguish the flames.
The provincial government visited the area on Tuesday and promised to identify vacant land to relocate affected residents.

Authorities say last year alone, they recorded ten separate fires in the area.
eThekwini Municipality estimates at least 150 shacks were destroyed.
