Minster in the Presidency, Jeff Radebe, has described former president of Cuba, Fidel Castro, as a friend of Africa.
Castro who was known for being against colonial occupation on the African continent died on Friday night in Havana at the age of 90. Radebe, who was speaking yesterday at the Chief Albert Luthuli Memorial Lecture at UKZN's Westville Campus says Castro will be remembered as an icon of the struggle against oppression.
Radebe has described Castro as an icon who will be remembered throughout history.
"We dip our flags to this icon of the struggle who fought against oppression and colonialism," he said.
"History will, one day, rewrite the story of Cuba and present it as a country of gallant people who sacrificed all in order to make others free," Radebe said.
