Fees Must Fall activist Kanya Cekeshe has been released from prison.

Cekeshe was one of the inmates whose sentence was reduced by 12 months after President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier this month granted a special remission of sentence to over 14 000 prisoners.
On Monday, AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo walked out of jail on early parole.
Cekeshe was incarcerated at Leeuwkop Prison in Joburg since 2017 after being sentenced to eight years for public violence and malicious damage to property.
Justice and Correctional Services spokesperson, Chrispin Phiri said: "Cekeshe is part of those who have benefited from the remission process which was announced the President."
"As a result of the remission process Cekeshe's sentence has been cut by a year which means he as served a third of his sentence and is now eligible for parole," he said.
