Fees protests: UKZN students speak about time lost
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Many students have stayed away after a message warning of a fees-related strike was circulated on social media despite lectures having resumed at UKZN.
Students at several institutions country-wide embarked on marches - some of which have since turned violent - following the announcement that universities will independently determine the fee increases -not exceeding 8% for the prospective year.
Newswatch was stationed at both the Howard College and Westville campuses where there's been heavy police presence following two days of violent protests.
We spoke to a few students at Howard College campus who attended class and shared their views on the protests.
Meanwhile, student leadership at UKZN's Howard College campus have distanced itself from an audio that has been circulating - calling for a complete shutdown of universities. The representatives say they do not know who recorded the message.
