Family’s murder leaves Mgodini community reeling with grief

The murder of a family of five in Pietermaritzburg has left the Mgodini community reeling with grief. The bodies of three children were among those found at a home on Tuesday.

Police recovered an axe and a knife from the scene.  

 

Ward 12 councillor Nkosinathi Moseou says he was called by a local induna to assess the situation.

 

'One family member had to break the window and then they saw that there was something fishy, so then we had to call the police. Then, when they came, they had to break the door. when we arrived inside the house, the bodies were in one bedroom.”

Moseou says they understand that police have taken in two suspects for questioning.

 

"According to what I got from Induna regarding the background of the family, is that the family member (the guy who is arrested) was arrested before because an old lady had to open a case against him because he was abusing them in terms of getting the social grant, but he was released."
