Family hopeful Durban North teen will be discharged from hospital
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
The family of a Durban North teenager, who underwent brain surgery, after a horrific car and bike collision on Christmas eve, says they're on the verge of receiving some good news from the doctors treating 13-year-old Kiara MunGavin.
"We are very excitedly waiting this morning with Kiara to hopefully be released. She had a CT scan yesterday and her brain looks like it's recovering excellently. It's showing good signs of healing. There's no haemorrhaging, there's no fluid build-up and there's a bit of scarring which is to be expected," her mother, Jaci MunGavin said.
Jaci says Kiara's been receiving therapy to strengthen her speech and memory.
They were both in the car, when their vehicle collided with a motorbike along McCurtin Avenue in Durban North. A fragment of Kiara's skull was sewn into her abdomen to preserve it, for a procedure later.
