Facebook post about membership card incites racism: DA
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
eThekwini's Head of Parks and Recreation is being accused of inciting racism by the DA in KZN.
The opposition party's been reacting to a personal Facebook post by Thembinkosi Ngcobo in which he questions the wording on a DA membership card.
A picture of a DA membership card appears in the photo with the words 'membership card' written on it in English, Afrikaans and isiZulu.
Ngcobo gave a literal meaning of the isiZulu - as "card that confirms you are white".
The DA's Zwakele Mncwango has refuted Ngcobo's translation, saying he is desecrating the language when he should be helping preserve cultures.
"Racism is becoming a cancer in South Africa but people like Thembinkosi are perpetuating racism instead of dealing with the issue.
" This card is a DA card. Ubulungu is a noun when directly translated in English means membership. I come from KwaNongoma and I've done Zulu as a third language," he said.
Ngcobo declined to comment.
