According to KZN police, a group of armed men entered Gateway Theatre of Shopping and broke the glass door to the jewellery shop to gain access.

The gang is said to have stolen an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery.

This man who works at one of the retailers near the targeted store says he was waiting for his shop to open when he heard a loud noise.

“There were two guys in the store, as soon as they finished inside, there was a second gun shot. There was a huge bang, then I heard another gun shot,” he said.

“One of them told me to step back, my hand was on my heart. After that I saw a guy coming out, dragging a huge sheet full of stuff inside and they walked towards gate five to their vehicle,” he added.

Other workers, some of them visibly shaken, have told Newswatch the sound of the gunshots had them ducking and diving.

Police are investigating a case of robbery and have made no arrests.
