The National Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry in KZN is confident that the provincial government has the ability to turn the local economy around.

In his State of the Province Address delivered in Pietermaritzburg yesterday, Premier Willies Mchunu said the global economy has hampered the province's economic growth - saying it shrank to 0,16% in the third quarter of 2016.

Mchunu said the local economy is anticipated to grow by 1.8% this year - above the projected national average of 1.6%. The chamber's Lawrence Mavundla says small businesses should be granted the opportunity for growth.
"Last year, there were a lot of investments announced in the province of KZN. This is the year that this is implemented. As long as those business are going to use small businesses to grow themselves - we are going to see a serious upswing in KZN," he said.
