'The EU is SA's biggest trading bloc'

The outcome of the Brexit referendum in the UK could have serious consequences for the South African economy.
That’s according to DA leader Mmusi Maimane who says the opposition party is concerned the country could edge closer to a recession and lose more jobs.
Maimane told reporters in Durban yesterday that government needs to take the issue seriously.
"The EU still remains South Africa's biggest trading bloc - we must continue to do trade. South Africa must diversify its offer across the world. As that economic instability unfolds, we've got to make sure our economy is resilient enough to see through the transitions that will take place," he said.

He said Prime Minister David Cameron's decision to resign is an important lesson for South African leaders.
"I think these are key lessons for our own president - if you lose the mandate of the people or violate the Constitution, it will be a great lesson to learn that you need to step down as the leader of the country," he said.
