eThekwini’s independent candidates unveil plan of action

Independent candidates from over 30 wards in eThekwini say residents can elect councillors who won't be swayed by a political party's agenda.
They've unveiled their plan of action ahead of the November local government elections.
There are 1 700 independent candidates in the country - more than 50 are registered in eThekwini alone.
Speaking at a media briefing on Monday, Ward 103 candidate Mthetheleli Sibisi explained that by voting in independent councillors, residents will be doing away with the so-called political middleman.
"So the reason why our body is not performing better, which is the eThekwini, is because these cells that create this body are infiltrated by thuggery who address themselves political candidates faction around the political parties.
"So for us we are giving the people the mandate that it is time the communities to take charge of their developments and be active participants in everything that is happening in their ward without being sidelined because of political affiliation or ideology affiliation.”
