The city says it has noticed a trend of electrical faults and trip-outs after loadshedding due to the high waiting loads when the power is restored.

Eskom announced load shedding levels will alternate between stages two and four from Sunday.

Municipal spokesperson Lindiwe Khuzwayo said this will also help prevent the damage on electrical equipments which were not designed for frequent outages.

"Residents and businesses can significantly reduce these trips by switching off appliances such as geysers, airconditioners, heaters, stoves and pool pumps during load shedding. When electricity supply is restored, residents must only switch on these appliances after 30 minutes. If we all do this we will significantly reduce the incidents of trips and keep the lights on after load shedding.”
