eThekwini reopens 3 more beaches as residents warned of water restrictions

Three more beaches in eThekwini have been reopened to the public after they passed water quality tests following previously detected high levels of E.Coli.

This comes as the water quality of Country Club, Winkelspruit and Anstey's beaches have shown signs of improvement and acceptable standards.

However, eThekwini says while water quality at Umdloti, Laguna and Bronze beaches has reached acceptable standards, they will still remain closed for now.

The same also goes for Addington, Brighton, Reunion, South, Westbrook, Umhlanga and eThekwini beaches.

Meanwhile, residents living in the western areas of eThekwini are urged to use water sparingly as they will be affected by water restrictions on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Municipal spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela says the restrictions are due to the second phase of a pipeline relocation by national roads agency Sanral, so it can complete construction on the N3 highway in the Lynfield Park area.

"People are urged to reduce consumption to prevent reservoirs running dry as they will be reduced incoming flows into the system.

"The plant relocation is from the 29th to the 30th of Novmember."
