eThekwini municipal strike: EFF leads clean-up in Durban
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
eThekwini residents have been urged to roll up their sleeves and help clean the refuse-strewn city.
This as more and more uncollected rubbish piles up in the streets due to the ongoing municipal workers' wage strike.
They downed tools some two weeks ago, saying they want their salaries to match those of workers in other metros.
The EFF in KZN has been leading a clean-up campaign in Overport.
Provincial party chairperson Mongezi Twala says they will be moving to other parts of the city that need attention.

He’s urged businesses to also get on board and help with services such as logistics and refreshments for volunteers
"We said let us be on the ground whilst we engage with the municipality, but we must be hands-on. We are here in Overport with volunteers, and we are ready to assist with cleaning the communities because our people are living in deplorable conditions."
Twala says he also met with Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda on Tuesday to discuss the crippling strike.
He believes the mayor's perceived arrogance has been an impediment to ending the strike.
"Whether the strike is legal or not legal, the matter here is that workers are not happy with the pay grading. They must not be locked in boardroom meetings and be with the people."
The mayor is expected to provide an update on the service delivery disruptions at a media briefing on Wednesday afternoon.
