eThekwini mayor tables tariff hike changes
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda tabled the budget at a full council meeting at the Durban ICC on Friday, announcing that the tariff hikes proposed earlier this year have been adjusted down.

Kaunda says electricity tariff increase is being dropped from 14% to 12.72%.
The proposed hikes for water and sanitation are being reduced by two percent to 12.9% and 10.9% respectively.
Property rates go down to 6.5% (from 7.9%).
Refuse is down to a 7% increase for domestic and to 8 % for business.
Ratepayers associations have been up in arms over the proposed tariff hikes, with some arguing they are unjustified as service delivery by the City has been poor, while others say many communities cannot afford the proposed increases.
