eThekwini fast-tracks R42.8m flood repair projects
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
eThekwini's municipal council has given the go-ahead for a move to fast-track urgent infrastructure projects aimed at repairing flood damage.

The City’s Engineering Directorate will now reprioritise R42.8 million in savings from its capital budget.
Recent storms have delayed many of the city’s road projects, with contractors struggling to meet targets.
It has led to the underutilization of the 2024/25 budget.

The reallocated funds will now go towards key projects, including the Prospection Road Canal upgrade, the Gravel Road Upgrade Programme, and four major road and bridge repairs.
Projects include the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Freeway or M4 inbound where resurfacing is currently underway.
Work is also ongoing on the Blundell/Shallcross and Coedmore Road bridges both damaged during the 2022 floods as well as the Hunslet Road and Bridge construction.
