eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba has announced slightly reduced tariffs for the 2025/26 financial year.

He says communities had complained about the proposed tariffs, including for water.
" While the proposed domestic tariff increase has been reduced from 15 to 13%, the water tariff increase for business has been reduced from 16 to 14%. For sanitation, the tariff of 13% has been reduced to 11%.
“The proposed domestic sanitation tariff increase of 13% has been reduced to 11%, whilst the proposed sanitation tariff increase for business has been reduced from 14% to 12%.”

While refuse tariffs for households and businesses have been reduced from 9.9% to 9%, that was not the case for electricity tariffs.
"The proposed tariff for electricity is 12.72%, and remains unchanged. We failed to win our argument with Eskom. They pleaded that they are also picking up, the cost of providing the services increases, and that they can't do this any better. The surcharge is being reviewed, and the report will be submitted in June."
Xaba delivered the City's Budget during a special council meeting at the Durban ICC on Monday.
