Eskom 'to study' govt gazette on electricity disaster
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Eskom says it's studying the newly gazetted national state of disaster over the electricity crisis.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the move during his State of Nation Address at Cape Town City Hall on Thursday night.
He said the declaration is meant to fast-track government's efforts to tackle the supply shortage.

Eskom's Sikonathi Mantshantsha says they need to understand the implications of the declaration.
"With regards to the creation of a new government department for electricity, Eskom is unable to comment on any policy decisions. We will continue to work with the government through the shareholder ministry."
