Eskom ramps up loadshedding to Stage 6
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Embattled power utility Eskom has ramped up loadshedding
from stage 4 to stage 6 on Wednesday afternoon.

In a short statement released on Wednesday morning, the utility says loadshedding has had to be intensified due to the loss of additional generating units overnight.
Eskom interim spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says storage dams have not been filled up, adding to pressure on the grid to keep the lights on.
"The extensive use of Open Gas Cycle Turbines and the inability to replenish pumped storage dam levels, Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented at 07:00 this morning until 14:00.

"Thereafter, Stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented from 14:00 today until 05:00 on Thursday. This pattern will be repeated daily until further notice. Eskom will publish an update as soon as any significant changes occur."
Eskom’s initial plan was for stage 4 from this afternoon.
