Eskom to keep power cuts at stage 6 throughout weekend
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Eskom will continue implementing stage 6 load shedding from Friday through to Sunday.
The power utility said on Thursday that it had depleted its reserves during this week's cold snap.
Spokesperson Daphne Mokwena said there had been failures at additional generating units since Sunday.
"Stage 6 load shedding will continue to be implemented over the weekend to replenish the depleted emergency reserves to permit a possible reduction in the stages of load shedding in the coming week."
Mokwena said a generating unit each at Grootvlei, Hendrina, Lethabo, Tutuka, two at Arnot, Matla and three at Kriel power stations were taken out of service since Sunday.
There had also been a delay in the return to service of a generating unit at Kendal and two at Tutuka power stations.
"Eskom teams are working tirelessly to return these generating units to service. It is anticipated that eight generating units will be returned to service in the next few days,” Mokwena said.
