Employees at Durban mall worried about safety after attempted break-in
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
It's emerged robbers who targeted a cellphone shop at the La Lucia Mall in Durban early this morning were not successful - thanks to the swift response of emergency services.
In a statement, management says armed response officers and police arrived within minutes and thwarted the robbers' attempted break-in to the MTN shop - situated close to one of the mall entrances.
The robbers fled and no arrests have been made.
When Newswatch arrived on the scene- we found employees helping a contractor to repair the store door that was damaged at the bottom during the attempted break-in.
Customers kept arriving and stood at the door - seemingly unaware of the situation.
Some of the employees at the mall say they were not informed about the attempted burglary
when they arrived for work and only found out when being interviewed.
They say they are concerned about the security in the mall which they feel is not enough.
In a short statement, La Lucia Mall management says they remain on high alert.
Police are investigating the incident.
