Empangeni child shoots sister, turns gun on himself

Details have emerged of a shooting incident involving children in Empangeni.

An 11-year-old boy accidentally shot his 2-year-old sister after finding a gun in their home this weekend.
The police's Thembeka Mbhele says the distressed child then believed to have turned the gun on himself.
"Two siblings were left at home by their parents as they went out. The firearm was left in the house.
"The 11-year-old took the firearm and accidentally shot at the 2-year-old. The 11-year-old turned the gun to himself and shot himself. One child died on scene. The other died in hospital," she said.

Mbhele says they are trying to establish how the child got his hands on the weapon.
Leaving a gun unattended is a violation the Firearms Control Act.
