Emergency funds activated to assist flood-hit municipalities
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Cooperative Governance Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa says emergency funding has been activated to support municipalities hit by recent floods.

In KZN, at least two lives were lost due to inclement weather last month, with more than 100 schools suffering extensive damage.
A national disaster was declared in the Eastern Cape after at least 102 people died when heavy rains lashed parts of the province.
Speaking during his department’s budget debate in Parliament on Wednesday, Hlabisa said technical teams are on the ground to continue assessing the damage across affected areas.

“We are now urgently working to support the affected provinces and municipalities, not just in Wade, but with the resources they need to recover and rebuild.
“Technical teams have already been deployed through the municipal infrastructure support agent to assess the damage to roads, breaches, water and sanitation systems, and other essential infrastructure.”
