Electricity charges increase from Monday
Updated | By Bulletin
Eskom is charging more for electricity consumption from Monday.
Energy regulator, Nersa, approved the utility's tariff increases in December for the 2024-2025 period.
Eskom direct customers can expect a percentage increase of 12.74-percent for all tariff charges, except the affordability subsidy.
"The affordability subsidy charge is raised as a subsidy to the Homelight 20A tariff and is determined by NERSA," says spokesperson Daphne Mokwena.

"This charge exists due to historically lower Homelight 20A tariff increases and is paid by the non-municipal large industrial and urban tariffs. There are no tariff structural changes for 2024/25, however, Eskom is considering a tariff structuring submission to NERSA for implementation in 2025/26."
Mokwena says tariff hikes of 12.72-percent will come into effect from 1 July.
Meanwhile, from Wednesday, motorists at the coast will have to fork out between 58c and 60c more for a litre of petrol.
Diesel costs are coming down by between 4c and 9c per litre.
