Elderly woman mauled by pet dog, left critically injured
An elderly woman is in a critical condition in hospital after she was mauled by her pet rottweiler in Salt Rock, outside Ballito.

The woman had been walking her two dogs in a local park this morning when the rottweiler turned on her.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says the neighbours were first alerted when the attack occurred.
"The neighbours heard screaming from across the road. When they arrived to see what was happening, the dog came towards one of the neighbours. He had a firearm and out of self-defence, he shot the dog," he said.

He says the 67-year-old woman suffered severe injuries to her arms and legs.
"Our biggest concern is she has a significant amount of damage to her arms and legs which is creating a poor blood flow to her lower limbs so she's currently being treated by a vascular surgeon to secure blood flow," he said.
