At least eight people have died in a crash involving a taxi and SUV on the N2 past the Nseleni off-ramp in the north coast.
Kwazulu Private Ambulance services rushed to the scene on Sunday night, where the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.
Spokesperson Craig Botha says the N2 between Nseleni and Empangeni had to be closed for hours while authorities worked to clear the scene.
"Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that two patients had sustained critical injuries. Six patients had sustained serious injuries and two patients had sustained minor injuries.
"Sadly, eight patients had sustained fatal injuries and has succumbed to their injuries before emergency services arrived.
"Paramedics together fire rescue services had to use specialised rescue equipment to free some of the entrapped patients.”
