Efforts underway to root out aquatic weeds at Inanda Dam
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
There is a move to curb the growth of aquatic weeds affecting the quality and choking the flow of water at Durban's Inanda Dam.

Aquatic weed barriers have been installed to prevent the further spread of water hyacinth, which now covers about 30 percent of the dam.
The dam supplies water to eThekwini and is also used for recreational activities.
Mbali Ndlovu, who is the managing director of Msinsi Holdings which oversaw the installation, says the barriers were placed along the dam's upper areas to block the weed from spreading into the main basin.
"We have taken an integrated approach which then means we will use this barrier and we will also use chemical spraying, which is the fastest method of getting rid of the aquatic weeds and we are also using biological control.
"As soon as we get the water use licence, we will do the chemical spraying, but the biological control method we are also using it, so that is what is going to happen going forward."
