Economic development to crackdown on illegal alcohol traders

The Department of Economic Development says those selling liquor without a licence will be arrested.

Level 3 lockdown has started on Monday, which also means the reopening of liquor stores nationwide.
While there is a total of 8 000 liquor licence holders in KwaZulu-Natal that are expected to sell alcohol - the department is aware and is ready for the illegal sale of alcohol.

Spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya says unannounced visits to liquor stores and on suspected illegal traders will be conducted.
"Any sale of liquor by people who are not licenced will be arrested, as this will be in violation of the KZN liquor licence."
