Workers belonging to three unions are demanding better wages.

DUT says it remains committed to resolving the issue so that all university functions can return to normal as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, SRC president Siphephelo Mthembu says first year students from quintile 1,2 and 3 schools and first year students who receive grants from social security agency - SASSA have been unblocked from the system so they can register.

"There are students who came from very far, only to find out that they cannot be processed through financial aid or finance because all those staff members who are occupying those offices are currently on strike. We've agreed with management that those students who are from quintile and SASSA are enrolling for free," he says.

DUT says some students are still being registered.
