DUT says lectures are now set to get underway on Tuesday, 13 February 2018.

Management and striking staff have not yet been able to reach an agreement over salary increases since early January.

"We are disappointed to confirm that our salary negotiations between the three labour unions and the university management team remain deadlocked," said DUT spokesperson, Alan Khan.

Staff affiliated to NEHAWU, TENUSA and NTEU downed tools early last month, demanding better pay.

The unions and DUT management have been in a mediation process with the CCMA this week, but the impasse seems no closer to being resolved.

Striking workers are demanding a revised 8.5% increased, while DUT is offering 6.5%.

The 2018 academic year was initially meant to get underway this past Monday, but the varsity pushed the first day back by a week to Monday, 12 February as a result of the strike action.

With workers and DUT still unable to reach an agreement, the academic year has now been pushed back by another day to Tuesday, 13 February 2018.
