Durbanites to unite for International Coastal Cleanup Day
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Durbanites will come together this morning to lend their hands in a coastal clean-up at the city's Umngeni River mouth.
The clean up forms part of the International Coastal Clean-up campaign arranged by Ocean Conservancy for International Coastal Cleanup Day under the theme "Keep trash in the Bin and not in the Ocean."
It's part of a international study on ocean pollution. NGO, Adopt-A-River is leading the Durban leg of the clean-up.
The Organisation's Janet Simpkins says they expect a positive turnout.
"We are really looking forward to a good turnout, many hands and lots of waste collected", she said.
"We normally have community cleanups but this is a bit different in that we are going to be sorting and counting what we pick. This contribute towards ocean conservancy", Simpkins said.
The clean-up will begin at 9am today at the Beachwood Mangroves.
