Durban residents warned of planned water shutdown
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
Residents in Durban South and Central should brace for a planned water shutdown next week.

The interruption will affect several reservoirs connected to the uMngeni-uThukela Wiggins Water Treatment Works gravity system.
The shutdown is scheduled from Tuesday morning, 8 July, until Wednesday, 9 July.
eThekwini Municipality says it’s to allow uMngeni-uThukela Water to replace large-diameter valves and check meters on the pipeline.
The bulk water supplier also wants to repair a leak that it says has limited the flow of water to the treatment plant since April.
During the shutdown, the treatment works will be switched off, meaning no water will flow into the reservoirs.
The city says it will try to top up reservoirs in advance, but stresses that water supply will depend on consumer usage.
Residents are urged to reduce consumption and use water sparingly as it could take up to three days after the shutdown for the supply to fully recover.
The municipality says water tankers will be deployed where needed.
