Police say an 18-year-old woman was at Berea Park Road in Essenwood when she was approached by a man who introduced himself as Thapelo in January this year.

Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbhele says the victim continued walking but was followed.

Mbhele says she was overpowered and raped.

"He also robbed the victim of belongings before fleeing on foot. Charges of robbery and rape were opened at Berea Police Station and a docket was transferred to Durban central for further investigation", she said.

"Anyone with information that can assist detectives should contact Constable Majola on 067 031 2704 or our Crime Stop number which is 0600 10 111", Mbhele said.
