Durban police hunt CIT robber after deadly shootouts

A search is underway for a suspected cash-in-transit robber who escaped during a shootout with police in the west of Durban.

Two other suspects were killed during Thursday's gun fight in Mariannhill.
KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi say a third robber was killed in a separate shooting in Inanda.
The group was wanted for several crimes, including a heist near Richmond last week, where a bystander was killed.
Mkhwanazi says they recovered a stolen firearm from one CIT attack.
"We know of an incident that happened where unfortunately a 6-year-old was injured and an adult male was shot dead. That happened as a result of an armed robot that has gone wrong."

He said the criminals planned to bomb the cash vehicle and steal the money.
"However, they did not make a right calculation with the amount of explosive they put in there because the robbery was not successful and which then they started shooting around that led into the injury of those people."
Police managed to trace at least three of them.
