Durban officer, facing corruption charges, granted bail

A Durban detective who's accused of corruption has been granted bail.
Constable Mohamed Zaine was was arrested yesterday in a sting operation.
It’s alleged he demanded a R10 000 bribe from a fraud suspect to make the case go away.
Zane's appearance in court today was brief - and the state did not oppose his application for bail. In an affidavit, the 29-year-old says he had no previous convictions or pending cases and that he lived with his mother and sister in Sydenham.
He is facing charges charges of corruption, and says he intends pleading not guilty. He's been released on bail of R5000.
The case has been adjourned to October.
Zane has in the meantime been ordered not to communicate with any state witnesses.
