Durban man in court for possession of child pornography

A KwaZulu-Natal man, who was nabbed by local police after he was allegedly found in possession of child pornography, is expected to make his first appearance in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Police say they received information about the suspect from an undercover agent based in the USA last month. 


The agent informed them that the suspect was distributing child pornography on social media.

 

Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says the Serial and Electronic Crime Unit were then roped in to investigate.

"A search-and-seizure operation was conducted this morning [Monday] at Ridley Park in Malvern. A cellphone, as well as three memory sticks, were seized by police. 

 

"The cell phone was analysed at the scene and images of child pornography were found on the device. A 53-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for possession of child pornography."
