More than 50,000 local and international visitors attend the event yesterday at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse.

The iconic horse racing event is projected to boost eThekwini’s GDP by nearly R700 million.

"Bookings are absolutely fantastic, eThekwini mostly. It's going to keep not just the hotels but also the restaurants and shops busy for the weekend. Your uShaka Marine World, Your beachfront activities do benefit from this."

Tungay says they are pleased with security and safety measures in place for this weekend and beyond. " We've been working very closely with the Durban Metro when it comes to the tourism safety. They've increased the visible policing for this weekend, especially around. the Greyville Racetrack,  and the Durban CBD. So you'll see quite a good police presence out by working hand in hand with the SAPs in this regard.

So I think at the moment I think we, we in for a safe fun weekend.
