Durban filmmaker welcomes 90% local content quota for TV
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A Durban-based film maker believes the move by the SABC to push the quota of its overall local television content to 90% is applaudable.
The national broadcaster's move follows the adoption of the same content strategy for all of its 18 radio stations last month.
A spokesperson for the organisation says they are still in talks with local producers and film makers to iron out the details.
Film producer Junaid Ahmed says this is likely to see more South African films supported financially too.

"For me the most important thing is to create content not for the sake of creating it to meet the demand of 90% but to actually create good content.
"How do we tell our stories powerfully that capture our viewers' attention and also how do we overturn the perception that international work is better than South African work," he said.
