Durban dancer accused of raping 14-year-old girl

A dancer with ties to a popular Durban-based Gqom group has been accused of raping a 14-year-old girl.
The 31-year-old man, who cannot he named until he pleads, was arrested on Monday.
The accused said he is gainfully employed by Durban-based entertainment company Afrotainment and that he is a father of two young children.
He also said he is a respected and active member of his community in Lamontville, south of Durban.
He is set to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court again today, where a ruling on his bail application is expected to be made.

In an affidavit handed up in court in support of his being granted bail yesterday, the accused indicated that he intends pleading not guilty.The accused said he is gainfully employed by Durban-based entertainment company Afrotainment and that he is a father of two young children.
He also said he is a respected and active member of his community in Lamontville, south of Durban.
The State, however, is opposing the application.
It emphasised the seriousness of the crime and claims the accused is a flight risk and has not yet surrendered his passport.Show's Stories
