Durban to crack down on beachfront littering
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Officials
in Durban say they will be taking a hard line on those who litter at the city's
beaches.
They say a large amount of rubbish was left strewn at beaches over the Heritage Day long weekend.
eThekwini Municipality's Mandla Nsele says such behaviour cannot continue.
He says has warned that there will be consequences for those leaving a mess behind them.
“Durban Metro Police have been instructed to conduct regular patrols around the beach. Amongst other things the City will embark on is an educational campaign on the significance of keeping our areas clean,” he said.
“We condemn this littering and appeal to our residents and visitors to be responsible for their own waste and to use rubbish bins.”
