Durban areas facing 24-hour water shutdown
Residents in central and southern eThekwini are being urged to brace for a 24-hour water shutdown from tomorrow morning.
uMngeni-uThukela Water's pausing operations at the Wiggins Water Treatment Works from 4 a.m on Tuesday.
The utility says repair teams will replace a 1200mm gravity sales meter and inspect pipeline meters for billing accuracy.
Spokesperson Siyabonga Maphumulo says that while the planned shutdown is expected to last just one day, full recovery could take up to two weeks, especially in high-lying areas where reservoirs take longer to refill.

"In order to prepare for the shutdown, Umgeni-uThukela Water will fill up all affected reservoirs to capacity but we urge communities to use water sparingly. This will help the system to recover in the shortest possible time."
