The Pietermaritzburg High Court heard that Funokwakhe Ncube (25) and Sakhile Ncama (24) drank beers with Madoda Mndiyata at a tuck shop near Burntwood Farm in April.

While walking home through canefields, Ncube and Ncama stabbed the 49-year-old multiple times after an altercation.

KwaZulu-Natal NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara says a piece of the knife, that broke during the attack, was positively linked to one of the convicts.

"The two men were sentenced to an effective 25 years imprisonment in the Pietermaritzburg High Court, after they pleaded guilty to the robbery and murder of a 49-year-old man.

"They were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for robbery and 25 years imprisonment for murder. Since the sentences run concurrently, their effective sentence is 25 years imprisonment."
