Police say arson could be behind the fire that gutted parts of the home of KwaZulu-Natal's former Premier.

Sections of Nomusa Dube-Ncube's Hillcrest property, including the garage, went up in flames on Sunday night.
Videos and pictures of the fire began emerging on social media on Monday, the day Dube-Ncube was announced as the new deputy minister of higher education.

KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says three vehicles, two motorbikes and two quad bikes were also destroyed.
"It is reported that the owner of the property parked her vehicle inside the garage, but was later alerted to smoke coming out of the garage.
“The suspects are unknown at this stage, and the motive is being investigated."
