Drugs worth R130k found in Durban e-hailing taxi

Two men who were allegedly caught transporting drugs in an e-hailing taxi will appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

They were arrested in Durban Central on Tuesday.


Officers had been tipped off about the narcotics being moved.


They made their way to Gresham Place at North Beach, where they intercepted the vehicle with two occupants.


KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says upon searching it, police found heroin capsules, large packets of pure heroin and mandrax.


"An e-hailing vehicle with two occupants was intercepted and searched, 4 300 blue and white capsules of heroin, 4 000 empty capsules, 7 large plastic packets of pure heroin weighing 100gr each and 20 'boss' mandrax tablets were seized from the suspects."


She says the vehicle's two occupants were taken into custody.


"The suspects aged between 27 and 33 were arrested on the scene and charged for possession of drugs and dealing in drugs."


Mbele says the recovered drugs have an estimated street value of R131 000.
