Dr Silas Ramaite appointed as NPA acting head
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Dr Silas Ramaite as Acting National Director of Public Prosecutions.
The announcement was made this afternoon - in the wake of yesterday's Constitutional Court ruling, declaring Shaun Abrahams' appointment invalid and unconstitutional.
The Presidency says Ramaphosa's still studying the judgment but that he's committed to appointing a permanent NPA head within the 90 days ordered by the court.
Dr Silas Ramaite's been working for the NPA for more than 20 years.
He's currently a deputy director and responsible for Administration and Office for Witness Protection.
According to the NPA's website, prior to his appointment as deputy director in 2003, Ramaite served as a Special Director of Public Prosecutions at the NPA's head office.
