Done deal, SA government concludes sale of AstraZeneca vaccines
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The Health Ministry has announced that the sale of South Africa's batch of AstraZeneca vaccines has been concluded.
Last month, one million doses of the jab arrived in the country.
But the rollout was halted after a small study showed that it provided minimal protection against mild disease caused by a variant of the coronavirus first identified in South Africa.
They are expected to be shipped to nine African Union countries this week.
Minister Zweli Mkhize confirmed the full purchase amount for the vaccines was received by the Department on Monday last week.
The virus continues to impact South Africans across the country.
The Health Department reported 1051 new COVID-19 cases last night.
There were also 29 more coronavirus related fatalities.
South Africa's recovery rate stands at 95 percent.
