A tanker overturned on the freeway at around 4.30am today.

"A diesel tanker overturned between Paradise Valley bridge and the Pavilion turn-off. There is a huge diesel spillage - all authorities have been on scene. The recovery of the tanker has taken place already. They are trying to clean up the roadway and make the roadway safe for now," Metro police's Parboo Sewpersadh said.

The N3 is gridlocked with traffic queuing all the way from beyond Spaghetti Junction.

He says the N3 is gridlocked with traffic queuing all the way from beyond Spaghetti Junction. This is a no go zone for now.

"Motorists are advised to take the M19, via Reservoir Hills. Do not approach Spaghetti Junction - there is huge congestion. It is also advised to take M7, that's the Edwin Swales turn-off, towards Pietermaritzburg and the western areas," he said.
