12pm UPDATE: Miguel Louw’s alleged killer has been refused bail.

Miguel was reported missing in Durban in July and a large-scale search for the child ended in tragedy in September when his body was discovered in a thicket near Ebrahim's home.

Ebrahim launched a formal application for bail last week. Closing arguments wrapped up yesterday and a ruling is expected today.

In his closing arguments, Ebrahim's lawyer, Chris Gounden, labelled the State's case 'weak' and cited his client's monthly contributions towards the maintenance of his family home, as well as his father's ailing health, as exceptional circumstances warranting his release on bail, in the interests of justice.

Public prosecutor Kuveshnie Pillay however described Ebrahim as 'devious, divisive and highly intelligent'.

She says he deliberately misled Miguel's mother, Raylene, on the day of the child's disappearance and when asked if he knew where Miguel was, said he did not.

Video footage later showed the pair together inside a local KFC that afternoon. Pillay has asked the court to refuse Ebrahim bail.
