De Lille announces resignation as Cape Town Mayor
Updated | By Dineo Mphahlele
Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille has confirmed her resignation - effective 7pm today - as the head of the city's mayoral office.
De Lille has been speaking at the steps of the Western Cape High Court.
She says she will also be stepping down as a member of the Democratic Alliance.
She and DA leader, Mmusi Maimane announced in early August that they'd reached a mutual agreement that De Lille would leave office and that the party would withdraw internal disciplinary charges against her.
De Lille has been accused of nepotism and covering up corruption but she's denied this and has maintained she wants to clear her name.
Yesterday, De Lille took to Twitter to deny claims by the Cape Town Council speaker that she'd formally resigned.

She's called a press conference at the Western Cape High Court where she's filing papers to challenge the Bowman Gilfillan report which implicates her in wrongdoing.
De Lille and the DA have been embroiled in a months-long spat - that saw five Cape Town councillors resigning in dramatic fashion last week in solidarity with the mayor and citing racism within the party.
Addressing reporters, De Lille accused the Council Speaker Dirk Smit of getting ahead of himself when he announced yesterday that De Lille had formally resigned as mayor. Listen below.
