DA's application to declare EFF protest unlawful dismissed

The High Court in Johannesburg has dismissed an application by the DA to have the EFF 'national shutdown' declared unlawful.
The court made the ruling on Saturday after the DA lodged the application on Friday.
The court did, however, prohibit the EFF from shutting down schools, retail stores, businesses, trade and public roads.
The EFF-led protest has been planned for Monday.
DA leader John Steenhuisen says they welcome this ruling.
"This judgement is a victory for law and order in South Africa, and a win for all peace-loving citizens who want to work, learn, and provide for their families without fear of violence, looting, and intimidation by a group of vigilantes posing as a political party," says Steenhuisen.

He says the EFF has a right to protest, but should not be cause disruption at any point.
"The DA remains firmly committed to the principle of the rule of law to ensure that the rights of all South Africans are upheld and protected. Today’s judgement is a victory for law and order, and a victory for all South Africans who aspire to live in a country where violence, terrorism, and vigilantism are left, once and for all, in the halls of history."
